A useful range.
A clearer starting point.
Most straightforward small dents fall between $100 and $250 with paintless dent repair (PDR). Use these ranges to plan, then have your damage assessed.

Conventional body repair
More materials and refinishing can mean a higher bill. Confirm what the quote includes.
Small doesn’t
always mean simple.
A shallow 3-inch dent can be easier to repair than a sharp 1-inch dent on a body line. “Small” often means under 2 inches, but there is no universal cutoff.

Depth & shape
A smooth, shallow dent is different from a sharp crease or stretched metal.
- 02
Location & access
Edges, body lines and bracing can make the work harder. Trim may need to come off.
- 03
Panel material
Aluminum responds differently from steel and may require more time and specialized techniques.
- 04
Paint & repair history
Cracks, filler or an earlier repaint can change which methods are appropriate.
Can it be repaired
without repainting?
PDR reshapes the panel. It works best when the metal can be restored and the paint can stay intact.
Often suitable for PDR
- Paint is intact over the dent
- A smooth, shallow shape
- Metal is not significantly stretched
- The area can be reached or safely worked
Ask about the limitations
- Cracked paint or a sharp crease
- Stretched metal or structural damage
- Earlier filler, bodywork or repainting
- Tight edges and restricted access
A body-line dent or repainted panel is not an automatic “no.” A technician needs to assess the method, risk and achievable finish.
Repair cost.
Then the deductible.
For one small dent, compare the repair quote with the deductible that would apply to your claim. Coverage depends on the cause of the damage and your policy.
If the repair costs less than that deductible, there may be no payment above it. Check the terms with your insurer before deciding.

The things worth knowing
before booking a repair.
How much does a small dent cost to fix?
A straightforward small dent may cost $100-250 with paintless dent repair. A sharp dent, body line, difficult access or aluminum panel can increase the quote. Conventional bodywork with paint can start around $400 per panel. These are guide ranges, not an offer.
How long does a small dent repair take?
A straightforward repair may take 30-90 minutes. Several dents may take 2-3 hours or longer. Access, panel material and the repair method affect timing. Ask the technician about the expected duration and whether mobile service is available.
Will the dent disappear completely?
A suitable dent can often be restored close to its original shape. An invisible result is not guaranteed: depth, stretched metal, paint condition and earlier repairs matter. Ask what result is realistic before agreeing to the work.
Can I fix a small dent myself?
Some shallow dents may respond to DIY tools, but a poor attempt can stretch metal or damage paint and add repair work. A small size alone does not make a dent easy to repair. Get an assessment before using suction, glue or heat.
What if the dent also has a scratch?
A light surface scratch and broken paint are different problems. PDR reshapes the metal; it does not repair a scratch. A technician should assess whether the paint is intact and whether paint correction or refinishing is also needed.
Why do repair quotes vary?
Quotes can differ because of access, repair method, panel material, the expected finish and what is included. Compare the same damage and scope. Ask about trim removal, paint work and any conditions that could change the estimate after inspection.
Is PDR cheaper than a body shop repair?
When the damage is suitable, PDR often costs less because it avoids filler and repainting. It can preserve intact factory paint. If the paint or metal needs more extensive work, conventional repair may be the appropriate option.
